Feature Friday: 616 Horse Mountain Drive

Unique “Rammed Earth Recycled Tire Home” in Glacier View Meadows.

What is a “Rammed Earth” Home? Rammed earth homes are like building sand castles. The form of the home, which is usually a plywood structure that provides the outline of a wall, is already in place then a cross-grade, or mix, of soils is rammed into the walls, either by hand or machine. When everything is packed tightly, the forms are removed, and what’s left is a solid, stable wall. Builders repeat this process until the home is built.

Why I love this home:

1.) Efficiency: Near net-zero energy efficiency with active solar in-floor heating, fresh-air ventilation system, ceiling fans, and pellet stove for healthy and comfortable living.

2.) The finishes & unique interior: Home finishes include natural stone granite, wood, and concrete countertops and custom beetle-kill pine interior doors and trim.

3.) The view: Even though the area had previously been burned in a high park fire, this opened up the view for gorgeous sunsets from the front patio.
